RESCUE
Ria's Story
This is the picture I saw of her on DogRescuePages when
she had been rescued from life as a prospective brood bitch and was being
fostered in Ireland by a GSD rescue. She'd been living outside with a male affie,
never been in a house, not walked, groomed, fed properly or basically cared for
in any decent way, she was ten months old when she was sold to another family
but they returned her as she was so wild
then she was handed over to rescue. The male was also sold but turned up as a
stray, rescued by Shirley Carr and rehomed
Here she is the day she came, filthy, wouldn't let me touch her, stress peed
everywhere constantly! she wouldn't go
in the garden, then wouldn't come in from the garden - it was so sad to see a
dog so at odds with being part of a family and living in a house, it was just
like having a wild animal move in.
One positive was she was fascinated with my children and was perfectly at ease
with my other dogs.
She was 16kg and hadn't put any weight on in her foster home but here she took
it upon herself to thrive. I took her everwhere and even though I had to creep
up on her to cut the mats from her fur she forgave me and began to settle
putting on a kilo a week in the first four weeks she was here.
I was in touch with Shirley through the IAC soon after and I'll be forever
grateful for her help and advice, she was really kind to us.
Here she is with one of our four GSD's, Casper
and again with our newest lad, Gustav - a death row poundie from Ashton pound in
Ireland.
And one of the highlights of last year was meeting some lovely affies and their
families at the LAAD show in Bristol where she entered some classes along with
my deaf retriever x Clyde and meeting up with her litter sister and her human
mum at the Western show in November! we have become firm friends
Apart from a hemangioma which was removed when she was spayed in December last
year, she is as tough as they come. Clyde and the GSD's let her walk all over
them and we're all looking forward to many happy years together
