  LAAD 2004

It is three years ago since the first LAAD was held. This year, our second Love an Afghan Day was given a bumper start by a very generous donation of  £ 500 from the Southern Afghan Hound Club Rescue Fund. The Internet Afghan Hound Club pulled out all the stops and ran five very successful auctions raising a grand total of £ 1,495. Gonny from Holland joined in the fun and got sponsorship for a tattoo, which she had done. (Rather her than me)

One thing that I'm sure everyone will remember is a certain calendar featuring 'lads' and their dogs. The photo shoot is a day I will always treasure. The setting and the weather was absolutely glorious, the atmosphere very relaxed and friendly. Our very generous hosts had excelled themselves, everything ran smoothly. Our heartfelt thanks to the brave men and their well-behaved dogs, to David Paton for his fabulous photographs and to his wife Diane for her world famous front cover shot. To Jan Fielder for all the brilliant artwork and Eleanor Wilson representing James Wellbeloved who paid for the first print run. The calendar was unveiled at the AHA Ch. Show and raised £ 1,749 in just the one day. We ordered a small second reprint of the calendar and to date it has raised in excess of £ 3,300.Tricia Churchill was also very busy at that show selling photo shoot draw tickets. David Paton had very kindly donated a photo session and Jan Fielder a free ad in the Year Book. Tricia raised £ 167 and the lucky winner was Marcelle King.

Jo Smith has been a great help with her knowledge of the Internet. She sold a calendar on behalf of LAAD on Ebay for £ 102 and then a bit later another calendar and a signed photo for
£ 56. She has also sold a couple of other things since. The calendars have sold world wide and again Jo has proved invaluable by arranging payments through paypal, I have to confess, I wouldn't have a clue!

Raffle tickets were sold throughout the year. The prize money was donated by the people listed below this meant that every ticket that was sold was clear profit. It raised £ 1,763. Again Vanessa Small was 'saleswomen' of the year along with Cath O'Donnell and Ann Hayes, thank you for all your hard work. The winners were: first prize £ 300 J. Nicholas, Bristol, Second prize £ 200 Carol Mather, Cyprus and third prize £ 100 Kim Wilkins, Stoke on Trent. The tickets were drawn at the Western Ch. Show.

Jan & Tim Fielder, Val & Bob Buckland, Wendy & Mike Durrant and Chris & Bob Yates organised a great Companionship Dog Show. They all worked like Trojans, there were loads of prizes and the show ran like clockwork. A large number of people turned up to support it. The weather was lovely and the home made refreshments proved to be very popular. It was a very happy relaxed day and it was great to see some of the rescue Afghans enjoying their day out. I think most people went home with a prize. Sincere thanks to the hard working team, they raised  £ 660.

Later on in the year we decided to have a small number of bone china mugs made featuring the front cover photo. At the moment we have just five left. A tombola at the Western Ch. Show made £ 175. People have donated money and also lots of really beautiful items to sell or auction all of which are very much appreciated. At the time of writing this the money raised is in excess of £ 8,500. There is still some money to come in and the accounts will be drawn up at the start of 2005. The full details and distribution of the fund will be published in the next Year Book and copies will also be available from me. My thanks to Ellen Hopper for taking on this onerous task!

LAAD has been very successful this year and that is all down to your generosity, hard work and compassion, you are all magnificent. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed. Dogs don't ask for a lot, yet, they give us so very much, loving us unconditionally. They deserve the very best we can give them, a safe home, time spent with them and loads and loads of love. All they have to do with me is look into my eyes and I melt!

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE PLANNED SO WE CAN ADD IT HERE

The date for Love An Afghan Day has been set for August Bank Holiday Monday 2004  but obviously not all events need to be held on that day.  Some of the proposed plans could be, sponsored walks, coffee mornings, car boot sale, snoods for sale, on line auction, pledges and exemption dog show. We will keep you posted as details arrive. As you can appreciate we need as many people as possible to pull together to raise as much money as we can for our beloved breed

Love An afghan day is to be run on similar lines to Red Nose Day and will cover the whole country.  All the money raised is for Afghan Rescue. We have a bank account in the name of Afghan Hound Rescue and all cheques collected should be made out to that name. Two signatures will be required to withdraw any money from the account and bank statements will be made available to anyone who asks, it will also be shown on this site.
